Director’s Note
Welcome to Scotch’n’Soda’s production of The Addams Family! We have had so much fun working on this production, and we are very excited to share it with you.
Creepy, kooky, mysterious, and spooky, the Addams Family has held a special place in popular culture since 1938. They are remembered for their eccentricities, their complete disregard for normalcy, but also for the strength of their familial bonds, the love they have for each other. In contrast, the Beinekes are introduced as the “normal” counterparts to the Addamses, but they struggle in achieving the closeness that the Addames seem to have mastered.
However, this show sees both families at similar crisis points: what do you do when your children start to grow up? What do you do when you lose faith in your significant other? What do you do when the people you love most disappoint you? Every family, regardless of whether they are “crazy”, “normal”, or somewhere in between, faces similar struggles, and The Addams Family shows us that even the craziest families can emerge from these low points with stronger love and understanding for each other.
